Make imports reviewable

A file import translates one representation into another. A bank statement becomes transaction records. An exported conversation becomes messages and media references. The useful part is the interpretation, and that interpretation can need review.

Show the interpretation before saving

PrivLedge’s import review presents the extracted statement records and balance checks before they are saved. WhatsConvo’s preview shows the conversation’s participants, counts, and date range before importing it.

The details differ, but both workflows let the person importing the file inspect what the app believes it found.

Preserve context

A transaction amount is more useful with its statement and running balance. An attachment is more useful with the conversation and message it belongs to. Search and extraction should retain enough context to get back to that source.

FormatStudio addresses an earlier part of the same problem: inspecting document structure and validating format rules against the original statement.

Make uncertainty visible

A balance mismatch deserves an explanation and a review path. A file whose contents do not match its declared media type deserves different handling from an ordinary attachment. Treating both as successful imports would hide information the user needs.

Good review tools make it possible to correct an interpretation or discard it before relying on it.
